Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) would like to announce that the Quadra Island Recycling Depot will be moving to its new location, 657 Industrial Way, the corner of West Road and Industrial Way, and will be open to the public on May 30, 2026 (MAP 1). Current service level standards will be maintained with pop-up Recycle BC events held twice per month until October 2026. Operating hours of the new facility will be 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
What to Expect: May 30 – October 2026
From May 30 to October 2026, the existing mixed recycling bins will be moved to the new depot location and will be supplemented with the addition of fibre (cardboard) bins as well as Recycle BC pop-up events for selected materials. The new depot will be staffed and open to the community beginning on Saturday, May 30. The new depot operating hours will be Friday – Monday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, open on statutory holidays.
“It’s exciting that this year Quadra Island is transitioning to the Recycle BC program. This summer we’ll have twice-a-month pop-up events for flexible plastics, foam & glass jars (save the dates!) and by October we’ll be fully transitioned”, said Robyn Mawhinney, CSWM Director & Discovery Islands - Mainland Inlets (Area C) SRD Director. "Swing by the depot this summer Friday thru Monday to drop off your recycling, check out the new facility, and meet the operator."
Recycle BC Pop-Up Events
The official onboarding of the new Quadra Island Recycling Depot as a Recycle BC supported depot has been delayed to October 2026. This is due to the province wide Recycle BC supported depot transportation request for proposal (RFP) tender, which is in progress and will determine which company will be transporting recycling off Quadra Island. In the interim, Recycle BC pop-up events will be held twice a month until October 2026. At the events, three categories of materials will be collected, flexible plastics, glass and foam. The new depot will have an operator on-site during business hours who will be available to help reduce contamination rates of the existing mixed recycling bins and to help residents learn about what will be accepted once the full transition to a Recycle BC supported depot occurs.
