PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Thank you to everyone for their participation in our open houses, online survey and statistically-representative phone survey! The consultation on Ideas for Garbage: Help us plan for the future of our waste is now complete. Your input and ideas will help us make decisions about how we can best manage our waste in the future, including selection of our future disposal facilities, such as landfills. It’s all part of the process to update our solid waste management plan.

The consultation process included 14 public open houses and presentations held throughout the region to provide everyone with an opportunity to learn more about solid waste management and to provide input on options for future programs and services. Approximately 700 feedback forms were completed at the open houses or online. As well, a statistically-representative telephone survey was conducted. The large majority of feedback received through the open houses and online surveys is consistent with the results of the phone survey, which is considered to be statistically accurate within ±4.0%, 19 times out of 20. This information will be used to provide direction on the types of services that will help us reduce all of our waste and better manage the leftover garbage.

NEXT STEP

After reviewing the results of the consultation, the revised draft plan will go to the Comox Strathcona waste management board for discussion. The final plan needs to go to the Ministry of Environment for review and approval. Please watch for more information on our website.
