Trailer, Camper and Boat Disposal at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre

The Campbell River Waste Management Centre does not accept trailers, campers or boats for disposal.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Before bringing your trailer, camper or boat, contact CSWM at cswm@comoxvalleyrd.ca or 250-334-6016 at least 48 hours prior to disposal and wait to receive confirmation before coming to the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre.

Trailers & Campers

If you wish you dispose of a trailer at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre, please follow these steps to prepare the trailer for disposal:

  1. Motorhomes are not accepted: Motorhomes (anything with its own motor, not towed by a truck) are not accepted. For motorhome disposal, please contact the Northwin Landfill in Campbell River at 250-202-8644. 
  2. Asbestos testing: If your trailer or camper was manufactured before 1990, it requires testing for asbestos containing materials (ACM) if it. For testing requirements, contact a certified analysis lab: Asbestos Analysis, Removal & Disposal | Comox Strathcona Waste Management (cswm.ca)
  3. Prepare your trailer:
    -Remove as much metal as possible to place in the scrap metal bin for free disposal.
    -Remove all grey and black water from toilet and shower tanks. The Comox Valley Waste Management Centre is not permitted to accept liquids, including raw sewage.
    -Remove all compressed gas cylinders (i.e. propane).
    -Remove all batteries.
    -Remove any appliances.  If your RV comes equipped with appliances, the municipal solid waste mixed with recyclables rate will apply. More information on fees can be found here: Fees & Charges | Comox Strathcona Waste Management (cswm.ca)
    -Remove any flammables or other hazardous waste such as chemical cleaners for disposal through our Household Hazardous Waste Program (check operating hours).
    -Remove recyclable items (e.g. batteries, light bulbs, small appliances) which can be recycled for free disposal in the recycling area.
  4. Disposal fees:  Disposal will be charged at the municipal solid waste fee ($165/tonne) or the controlled waste fee ($200/tonne), depending on whether the trailer requires special handling. The rate will be determined by the operator. 

Boats

Please note that staff cannot help to unload or remove vehicle from the boat trailer. A tie-off area is available, however customers must provide their own tie off.

If you wish you dispose of a boat at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre, please follow these steps:

  • Concrete Boat: Required to contact CSWM before disposal. cswm@comoxvalleyrd.ca or 250-334-6016
  • Fiberglass Boat: 
    • Disposal fee: $200/tonne
    • Small craft only, no large boats can be accepted at this time. 
    • Engine must be removed, including built-in motors.
    • Remove all gas, oil, explosives and all appliances.
    • Empty black water tank.
    • Please remove as much scrap metal as possible (can be placed into scrap metal bin at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre for free).
  • Sailboat and Lead Keel: 
    • Disposal fee: $200/tonne
    • Small craft only, no large boats can be accepted at this time. 
    • If you are able to remove the lead keel CSWM recommends contacting ABC Recycle (it will save boat owners cost in the dispoal fee).
    • Engine must be removed, including built-in motors.
    • Remove all gas, oil, explosives and all appliances.
    • Empty black water tank.
    • Please remove as much scrap metal as possible (can be placed into scrap metal bin at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre for free).
