We are excited to share an update on the Quadra Island Recycling Depot conversion project! The Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) service has been working to establish a Recycle BC supported depot on Quadra Island, which will expand the range of recyclable materials collected.
Following public consultation in the summer and fall of 2021, and with valuable feedback from Quadra Island residents, the CSWM Board of Directors authorized the depot conversion. The results of the public consultation survey can be reviewed in the report below.

What's New?
We are thrilled to announce that the new depot is anticipated to open in Spring 2025!
Significant progress has been made:
- Lease Agreement – Complete
- Geotechnical Work – Complete
- Operator Contract – Complete
- Procurement of Structural Engineering and the Building - In Progress
Hours of Operation
The depot’s hours of operation are currently under review by CSWM staff and the operator. This review considers the allocated budget and a jurisdictional scan of other similar island communities to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
