What to Expect: May 30 – October 2026
From May 30 to October 2026, the existing mixed recycling bins will be moved to the new depot location and will be supplemented with the addition of fibre (cardboard) bins as well as Recycle BC pop-up events for selected materials. The new depot will have an operator on-site during business hours who will be available to help reduce contamination rates of the existing mixed recycling bins and to help residents learn about what will be accepted once the full transition to a Recycle BC supported depot occurs.
Why isn’t the depot opening as a Recycle BC supported Depot?
The official onboarding of the new Quadra Island Recycling Depot as a Recycle BC supported depot has been delayed to October 2026. This is due to the province wide Recycle BC supported depot transportation request for proposal (RFP) tender, which is in progress and will determine which company will be transporting recycling off Quadra Island. In the interim, Recycle BC pop-up events will be held twice a month until October 2026.
Recycle BC Pop-Up Events
From May 30 – October 2026, Recycle BC pop-up events will be held twice per month. At the events, three categories of materials will be collected: flexible plastics, glass and foam.
