CSWM Acquires Oyster River Recycling Depot Property
Last Updated: August 2025
The Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) service is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Oyster River Recycling Depot, located at 2185 Regent Road. This strategic purchase ensures the facility remains a community asset and will continue to serve residents of Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), Strathcona Regional District (SRD) and South Campbell River for years to come.
This acquisition was funded through the CSWM service and is included in its approved financial plan. The purchase provides for long term planning to enhance the recycling services available at this location. Future planned improvements include upgrades to the building, expanded diversion services, and additional parking to better serve the community. CSWM is committed to continued negotiations to include this location as a Recycle BC depot and add recycling services for items such as glass, foam and flexible plastic packaging.
The Oyster River Recycling Depot location has been part of the community since 1976, when it was constructed as a fire hall. It is a well-used and well-loved asset in the community. The introduction of recycling opportunities in 2002 at this location has demonstrated it is essential to serving the needs of approximately 12,000 area residents, as well as commuters who travel between Campbell River and Courtenay daily.
We will continue to share updates as they become available.
