Trailer and Camper disposal at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre
The Campbell River Waste Management Centre does not accept trailers and campers for disposal.
If you wish you dispose of a trailer at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre, please follow these steps to prepare the trailer for disposal:
1. Contact us:
Before bringing your trailer, contact CSWM at cswm@comoxvalleyrd.ca or 250-334-6016 at least 48 hours prior to disposal and wait to receive confirmation before bringing a trailer to the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre.
2. Motorhomes are not accepted:
Motorhomes (anything with its own motor, not towed by a truck) are not accepted. For motorhome disposal, please contact the Northwin Landfill in Campbell River at 250-202-8644.
3. Asbestos testing:
If your trailer or camper was manufactured before 1990, it requires testing for asbestos containing materials (ACM) if it. For testing requirements, contact a certified analysis lab: Asbestos Analysis, Removal & Disposal | Comox Strathcona Waste Management (cswm.ca)
4. Prepare your trailer:
- Remove as much metal as possible to place in the scrap metal bin for free disposal.
- Remove all grey and black water from toilet and shower tanks. The Comox Valley Waste Management Centre is not permitted to accept liquids, including raw sewage.
- Remove all compressed gas cylinders (i.e. propane).
- Remove all batteries.
- Remove any appliances. If your RV comes equipped with appliances, the municipal solid waste mixed with recyclables rate will apply. More information on fees can be found here: Fees & Charges | Comox Strathcona Waste Management (cswm.ca)
- Remove any flammables or other hazardous waste such as chemical cleaners for disposal through our Household Hazardous Waste Program (check operating hours).
- Remove recyclable items (e.g. batteries, light bulbs, small appliances) which can be recycled for free disposal in the recycling area.
5. Disposal fees:
Disposal will be charged at the municipal solid waste fee ($155/tonne) or the controlled waste fee ($200/tonne), depending on whether the trailer requires special handling. The rate will be determined by the operator.
